A week sailing the Saronic Gulf — one of Greece's most accessible and beautiful sailing areas, right on the doorstep of Athens. The route takes us through the island of Aegina, the scenic strait of Poros, the quiet Peloponnese harbour of Ermioni, and the legendary car-free island of Hydra before returning to Athens.
The Saronic Gulf is sheltered from the open Aegean, making it a very comfortable and safe sailing ground with reliable summer winds, crystal-clear water and a string of charming island towns and tavernas along the way.

Destination
Perdika, SW tip of Aegina
Est. Sailing Time
3–4 hours
Mooring
Town quay or anchor in bay
About Perdika
A quiet, traditional fishing village at the southern tip of Aegina — far less touristy than Aegina Town. Beautiful waterfront with excellent fish tavernas. Great swimming and snorkelling off the islet of Moni just opposite. Watch out for the ferry traffic approaching Aegina Town on the way in.
⚠️ Navigation Note
Leaving Alimos: caution to the reef of Aghios Cosmas SE of the marina entrance (hard to spot at night). Also watch for Mermingia rocks, 4–4.5 miles SE of Alimos in the direction of Cape Sounio.
Destination
Poros Town waterfront
Est. Sailing Time
4–5 hours
Mooring
Town quay (stern-to) or anchor
About Poros
Poros is separated from the Peloponnese mainland by a dramatically narrow strait — you can almost reach out and touch the cafés on the other side. The town is lively and picturesque, climbing up the hillside. The passage through the strait is one of the highlights of Saronic sailing. Fuel available at the marina.
Destination
Ermioni, Peloponnese
Est. Sailing Time
3–4 hours
Mooring
Town quay / stern-to or anchor in bay
About Ermioni
A lovely, authentic small town on a pine-covered peninsula on the Argolic Gulf. Less visited than the islands, with a laid-back atmosphere, good tavernas and crystal-clear water. The peninsula walk at sunset is highly recommended. Often calmer winds here — good for an afternoon swim.
Departure
~10:00 (short day)
Destination
Hydra Town harbour
Est. Sailing Time
2 hours
Mooring
Town quay (stern-to) — arrive early!
About Hydra
One of the highlights of the trip. Hydra is unique in Greece — absolutely no motorised vehicles on the island, only donkeys, horses and your own feet. The stone harbour town is breathtakingly beautiful and largely unchanged for centuries. It's very popular with yachts — arrive by early afternoon to get a berth on the town quay. Spend the afternoon and evening exploring. The walk up to the cannons above the harbour for sunset is unmissable.
Destination
Bistiou Bay, Poros
Est. Sailing Time
4–5 hours
Notes
Bistiou is a quiet sheltered bay on the north side of Poros — perfect for a last peaceful night at anchor before the return to Athens. Good swimming, barbecue on the boat, stargazing. This is the night to use up the last of the provisions.
Departure
Early — by 08:00
Must arrive by
17:00 at Pier 6, Alimos
Est. Sailing Time
5–6 hours
Fuel
Refill tank at Alimos marina fuel point
Notes
Return deadline is strictly 17:00 Friday. Base staff and the underwater diver will be waiting at Pier 6. If you arrive after sunset you collect keys from the chart table and check-out formalities happen Saturday morning. Refuel on arrival at the marina fuel point. Boat should be clean and tidy for handover inspection.
Deposit release
After inventory inspection (timing depends on your bank)
Notes
Final inspection with base staff. Have passports ready. Book your return transfer/taxi in advance — see Getting There section for taxi options. Allow at least 90 minutes to get to the airport from the marina.

🏛️
Aegina — Perdika
Day 2
The island of Aegina is famous for its pistachios and the impressive Temple of Aphaea (one of the best-preserved in Greece, easy taxi ride from Perdika). Perdika itself is a small traditional fishing village — charming, relaxed and far quieter than Aegina Town. The tiny islet of Moni just offshore has peacocks, deer and excellent snorkelling.
🌊
Poros
Day 3 & Day 6
Poros is separated from the mainland town of Galatas by a channel barely 200 metres wide — the views as you sail through are spectacular. The town climbs up a hillside crowned by a clocktower. Very lively waterfront with tavernas and cafés. Hire bikes to explore the island and the lemon groves at the Russian Bay.
🫒
Ermioni
Day 4
An authentic Peloponnese town on a pine-covered peninsula — one of the least touristy stops on the route. Two bays flank the peninsula, giving shelter in almost any wind direction. Walk the pine-shaded path around the headland at sunset. Excellent local tavernas with fresh fish — fewer yachts here means better prices.
⭐
Hydra — the highlight
Day 5
No cars. No motorbikes. No scooters. Only donkeys, horses, water taxis and your feet. Hydra's stone harbour town has barely changed since the 18th century and is a UNESCO-protected area. The harbour itself is one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean — ringed by grand captains' mansions. Restaurants, galleries and boutiques without the mass tourism feel. Arrive early (before 14:00 if possible) as berths on the town quay fill fast in summer.
Space on a yacht is limited — one bag per person is the golden rule. We strongly recommend a soft duffel bag: it packs into awkward spaces below deck far more easily than a rigid case. Hard-shell suitcases can be stowed, but they'll take up valuable cabin space, so if you can travel soft — do.
